Students come into the classroom with life experiences, ideas, and attitudes about learning. They are not empty vessels to be filled, but rather pieces of modeling clay to be molded and shaped. They need to not only be shaped in their learning, but allowed to develop their own intellectual curiosities. This is where the analogy ends and the reality of teaching begins. Students come to the classroom with not only the expectation that they are to learn something new, but want the opportunity to take that knowledge learn it, apply it, and then use it in real life. It is the successful application of knowledge that is the ultimate indication that true learning has taken place.
